Short Sight
Exploring what the world really looks like without my glasses.
If I had a penny for every time someone has asked to try on my glasses, and has been surprised at just how bad my eyesight is, I could retire tomorrow a rich woman!
My prescription is currently -8.5 in my left eye and -10 with an astigmatism in my right.
Trying to explain to someone who doesn’t need glasses, or who just wears them for reading occasionally, but can drive, work and play without them, is a nearly impossible task.
In my teenage years, I had full blown arguments with well-meaning parents of friends, who would move my glasses for safety in the middle of the night and unwittingly leave me lost and adrift in a totally unfamiliar landscape when I woke up the next morning.
Even now, I panic if I wake up and overnight kitty adventures have knocked my glasses away from exactly where I left them.
And then I tried on the glasses of someone else, over my own, and realised that what they see through my glasses is nothing like what I see without them.
This series shows what the world really looks like when you’re short sighted and don’t have corrected vision.
