Wild Magic

More of a project than a series, because I’m not a wildlife photographer, but every now and again I find (or create!) magical creatures with my camera.

While away in Norfolk in 2022 I spotted endless hares, but didn’t have the right lenses with me. So the following year I hired a ridiculous long lens and proceeded to spend every morning in a field, waiting for the perfect shot.

Which would have been less stressful if the farmer on a quad bike with his five dogs hadn’t appeared every time I’d got settled, sending the hares running!

Finally on the very last morning I got the shots I wanted, which in editing became Moon Hare and Wild Jackalope.

The bees are from an experiment with a new macro lens, and while I found macro photography strange at first because it’s so very different from how I usually shoot, I was thrilled with the results of my first wander with it. 

Fluffy Bees: Blue was taken at the end of my road, on a neighbour’s beautifully blooming ceonothus. 

I don’t often get wildlife photo opportunities but do plan to add to this project over time.
