Miniature magic

dolls, model horses & playing with scale

My love for life in miniature stretches back as far as I can remember. From Polly Pocket to the Oh! Penny treehouse, a big red bus and a tiny theatre with magnetic wands to make the figures move, mini things have always fascinated and soothed me.

In adulthood I’ve continued to collect tiny replicas of both real and imaginary things, from model horses to dolls to trinkets of all kinds of objects.

Art wise I just love creating tiny worlds – I love the toy aesthetic so don’t edit out joints, but enjoy adding realism with clothes, props, lighting & angles.

I also love playing with scale, which you’ll see in my Tales of Tails and ADHD Alice series, too. Making myself smaller or my minis bigger brings me a lot of joy, and always sparks conversation and nostalgia.

Connection through my mad and often extremely niche interests has always been as important to me as the photography aspect and the collections themselves – more about that on individual pages & posts.

Collecting, cataloguing and photographing my miniatures are the main draw, but I dabbled in painting & resculpting model horses (spoiler alert, 3D is not my medium!) and have been learning to restore & customise dolls. Most of my collections are thrifted or rescued and I love returning them to their former glory.

They’ve also been gloriously portable while caring for my Gran, so I can still get some photo time in even when I’m at Mum’s with her.
