There are some brilliant communities for photographers around, and one of these is Lisa Devlin’s Photography Farm – open, supportive and actually useful.
So when she suggested a collective challenge, run across 10 cities at the same time on the same day, just for fun & to get to meet other local photographers, I said a big yes to running the Colchester one!
The idea was to pick a colour or two at random (paint sample cards at the ready), and then shoot a single roll of film or 36 frames in an hour or two before meeting back up for drinks / lunch / chats.
Four of us turned up for this first one: Tracey Davies, Chloe Lee, and we snuck in a filmmaker in the form of Lu Camish too. Said hello, chose our colours, decided to hang out together while we did it, and off we (very slowly, because it was 31 degrees in the shade) went!

Mine were orange and green, which are very much not colours I use a lot (although they are the main brand colours for joint ventures TEMPRD and Ink Drops respectively, I guess!). But it was really interesting to look for colours I wouldn’t normally notice and see hidden bits of my home city.
I was expecting it to be a challenge in itself to keep to 36 frames but it was so hot and we were so busy chatting (which was kind of the main point of the event) that I actually ended up just not taking many at all.

We finished our hunt in Castle Park with chips, iced coffee and ice cream, and made friends with some pigeons and a squirrel like a bunch of extremely unlikely-looking Disney princesses… and it was a joy! Really looking forward to the next one already.
